WINTER SPORTS

SKATING AND SKI-ING Ice skating and ski-ing have become popular winter sports in the Mackenzie County, and the snow in the back country combined with the record frosts, made conditions ideal for both pastimes. At Tekapo, the ice skating rinks were well patronised, and parties of ski-ers were taking advantage of snow-covered hillsides. The Opawa Skating Club at Mount Nessing Las also opened an ice skating rink, and it has been well patronised over the last few days. On Saturday night, weather conditions changed to nor’west, and broke the frost. Yesterday, more snow fell.
