CONDITIONS IN TIMARU The sun shone from a cloudless sky yesterday with an absence of wind. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer—29. Bl. Max. temp.—sB.6. Min. temp, on grass—32.4. Frost—Nil. Wind.—Nil. Rainfall—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—l6.64ins. ’ Rainfall to date last year—U.9lins. ! Sunshine—B.3hrs. Sunshine to date this year—7l2.3hrs. Sunshine to date last year—7B6.7hrs. MAY WEATHER FIGURES I Fine settled weather predominated in Timaru during May. The highest maximum temperature was 66.4 degrees on May 13. while the lowest was 21.4 degrees on the 21st. Frosts were recorded on 16 days. During the month ,50ins of rain fell on seven days. The figures for April were 6.l7ins of rain on 18 days. The heaviest fall was on May 26 of 20 points. The sunshine for the month was 186.9 hours, the figure for April being 68.4 hours. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: Yesterday was line and mild but for the most part cloudy. The maximum temperature was 54 degrees. The morning was calm and a very light north-east breeze prevailed in the afternoon. The barometer rose slightly to 29.99 inches at 5 p.m. Ashburton: Conditions were settled yesterday, the sun shining from ?. cloudless sky, together with a light breeze from the north east. Geraldine: Bright and fine throughout the day. Temuka: Yesterday was warm and sunny. The maximum temperature was 51 degrees and the minimum 28. ! The glass was rising last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 I a.m. yesterday): Thermometer, maxi- I mum, 53.2; minimum, 39.5; frost, 1 degree; bright sunshine, 1 hour; wind i gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 26. Yesterday was fine and mild. Dunedin: There was bright sunshine yesterday and practically no wind. The maximum temperature was 55 degrees. The barometer rose to 30.06 inches. CANTERBURY FORECAST Special to " The Timaru Herald.*' WELLINGTON, June 1. Winds—Light to moderate, later freshening somewhat. North-easterlies prevailing on the coast and northwesterlies inland. Weather—For the most part fair to fine but occasional very scattered rains probable: temperatures generally mild but with some frosts to-night.
