HARMONICA BAND MOOTED Since the visit of the Timaru Harmonica Band to Temuka, interest aroused has led to steps been taken to form a local band. It is understood that the conductor of the Timaru Band (Mr C. K. Payne) has offered his services in organising and starting a combination. The promoters expect that through the appreciation of the music supplied by the Timaru Band sufficient interest will have been created to support a local venture. LABOUR PARTY SOCIAL Continuing its series of fortnightly socials, the Temuka Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, held a euchre party and dance, the attendance being so large that extra tables had to Le brought in for the card players. Winners of card games were: Mrs Jamieson, Miss P. Waters and Messrs A. Freddy and A. McFarlane. Mrs Rennie and Mr Cockcroft won mystery prizes. During the dance a Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr and Mrs G. Fisher. Music was supplied 'y a local orchestra, and Mr W. Seeler was the master of ceremonies. “SALLY OF THE REGIMENT” “Sally of the Regiment,” will be seen at the Elite theatre to-night. Here is a picture from English studios that has not only spectacle, but thrilling action, tense drama, comedy and laughable situations. It is a film of life and adventure with the Britisn Army and as such, it can be heartily recommended to the most blase of picturegoers. The story centres around Wallace Ford, who stars in the role of Jimmy Tracey, a Bowery tough fleeing from murder suspicion in New York, and joining the British Army under an assumed name to escape detection. Here he meets the Sergeant-Major’s daughter, Sally, played by Anna Lee, and falls in love with her. He has a rival, however, in Bert, the lance-corporal (John Mills), and the competition between the two men for Sally’s favours, provides some of the most amusing scenes in the film. Jimmy's past r-’-ies back to him forcibly when the girl friend (Grace Bradley) he left in New York, and who knows his secret, reappears. In a panic, he deserts the army and stows away on a ship, by mistake, finding himself on the same ship that is taking his regiment out to the East.
