AMERICAN COMPANY FAILS EXCITEMENT IN MARKET CIRCLES United Press Association— By Electrio Telreraoh -ColS«rleht (Received March 9. 6.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 8 The Richard Whitney Company, one of the most important brokerage firms in the United States has been suspended from the Stock Exchange on the ground of solvency after Mr J. W. Whitney's admission that it was unable to meet Its obligations. Mr Whitney was five times president of the Exchange, and a former broker for Mr J. P. Morgan, and was a member of the Exchange since 1912. The bankruptcy caused excitement in market circles, and contributed to the early decline of stocks by 1 to 3 points.
