THE CENTAURUS
DEPARTURE THIS MORNING By Tclegrapn—Press Association AUCKLAND, January 9. As the weather reports are favourable, the Centaurus will leave for Sydney at 5 o’clock to-morrow morning. The trip is expected to take nine hours. It is not expected that the ship will be aided by a tail wind as was the case for most of the way on her recent crossing from Sydney, but the most severe headwind Indicated was not anticipated to exceed 10 or 15 miles an hour, a trifle to the Centaurus with her reserve power. The fuel petrol tanks were topped up this afternoon and by evening the flight engineer reported that the ship was ready for the flight.
Though he gave no formal farewell message, Captain Burgess again expressed his appreciation of the welcome given himself and the crew in New Zealand, and the many kindnesses shown in the various centres visited.
