NEW HOSPITAL BUILDING WORK WELL ADVANCED The new building at the Waimate Hospital which is to house the new operating theatre and the recentlyacquired X-ray plant is rapidly taking shape, the brickwork now being practically completed. The structure, which will cost about £3OOO. is being erected near the east wing of the main hospital building behind the children’s sun verandah. The building is 60 feet by 32 feet over all, with walls 12 feet high. On the right of the main entrance is the ■ X-ray room, which is 15 feet 10S inches by 12ft. 9in. Adjacent to this is the dark room (14ft. by 12ft. 9in.) which will be fitted with developing tanks, sinks and other facilities for the developing of X-ray photographs. The anaesthetic room is next on the same side of the building. This room, which is 14ft. by 12ft. 9in„ can be darkened if necessary by means of adjustable shutters. The operating theatre claims the largest room in the building. It is 17ft. I by 16ft. 7in. and will be constructed | with a concrete floor with a terra go i finish. A plate glass window 12ft. in ■ width is to be fitted into the side wall.' Opposite the operating theatre is the j sterilising room, also a substantial room 13ft. by 12ft. Next : this is a narrow room which will be fitted with cupboards from the floor to the ceiling for the storing of instruments. This room will also contain a door giving a side entrance to the building. Other rooms on this side of the building are a doctors’ change room fitted with shower, conveniences, etc., a work room and a submerged colorifial room for the central heating plant. A corridor six feet wide runs from the entrance to the operating theatre and sterilising room at the end of the building. Connection between the new building and the present premises will be made by a covered corridor erected on wooden piles, which will give entrance through the present operating room. This “temporary” passage way will facilitate the extension of the new building if more accommodation is required at the hospital in the future.
