RAINFALL FIGURES The rainfall in 1937 was 23.74 inches, slightly below the average annual fall. After two wet months at the commencement of the year, a comparatively dry period (excepting May, when 2.31 inches fell) continued till November. when heavier falls were recorded. The heaviest fall for the year, 5.77 inches, fell in December, when rain fell on 12 days as follows:—2nd. 50 points; 3rd, 59 points; 6th, 19 points; Bth, 3 points; 10th, 53 points; 11th. 12 points; 12th, 2 points; 14th, 1 point; 16th, 107 points; 17th, 81 points; 27th, 1808 points; 31st, 10 points. The following are the figures for the last two years:—
CALEDONIAN CONCERT The annual concert of the St. Andrews Caledonian Society proved most popular. The programme presented included the following items:— Bagpipe music, Mr Donald Bowman; humorous items, Carl Morris and party, songs, Mr D. McGill; tap dances, concert party; songs, Miss Jean Dickson; songs. Miss Anita Ledsham; humorous items. Messrs A. Kean and C. Morris. After the concert the hall was cleared and dancing was enjoyed until the early hours of the morning. Music was supplied by the Harmonica Band and Messrs H. Edwards and J. Blank were masters of ceremonies. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs James Hay, “The Vicerage.” are on holiday in the Nelson district. Mr Leo Cosgrove, of the post and telegraph staff, has been transferred to Wakefield, Nelson.
