WIDOW FOUND DEAD
GAS WAS TURNED ON By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, January 6. Sitting in a chair in the corner of a gas-filled room with a cloak over her head Mrs Alis Wood, a widow aged about 50 years, was found dead in an apartment in St. Paul Street about nine o’clock this morning. At the inquest opened before Mr F. K. Hunt, the keeper of the apartment said he understood that Mrs Wood had come from Australia. She was very reserved. She had been in receipt of an income, but recently that had stopped and she had been trying to get work. She had been depressed, but last night she seemed well and cheerful. Witness knew of no friends in Auckland, but had reason to believe she had a friend at Napier. The inquest was adjourned for further evidence.
