HEAVY LOSSES IN BRITAIN United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, January 3. Until the end of December the foot-and-mouth disease epidemic which broke out on October 16 had cost the Government £236,861 in compensation for 82,636 cattle, 11,730 sheep, 6247 pigs, and seven goats slaughtered. The figures are small in comparison with reports from western Europe, where there have bee - grievous losses, especially in France and Germany.
