VALUE OF CARROTS

AS FEED FOR HORSES EXCELLENT SUBSTITUTE FOR GRASS The value of carrots where horses are concerned cannot very well be over-estimated, whether as contribution to the strength and endurance of the sound animal, or to the rapid discovery of the sick one. When one considers the dry heating nature of most of the food given to town horses, especially in Winter, it is obvious that nature requires something of a moister character to maintain the balance and keep the horse healthy. Nothing answers this purpose as well as carrots, which are more nutritious, and seem better adapted to the horse’s stomach than swedes. When first given it is slightly laxative but as the horse becomes accustomed to it this effect ceases.

Carrots improve the state of the skin, form an excellent substitute for grass at all times, and are excellent alternative for animals out of condition. They are beneficial in all chronic diseases connected with breathing, and have a marked influence upon chronic cough and broken wind.
