PROBLEMS OF SOLDIER SETTLERS LAND COMMITTEE FORMED At a meeting of th? executive of the Geraldine Returned Soldiers’ Association, matters affecting soldier settlers were discussed, and the president, Mr W. McClure, the secretary, Mr F. W. Graybum, and Messrs R. P. Harper and E. O. Winmill were appointed a land committee to make investigations and to report to Dominion headquarters. It was decided to hold a meeting of returned soldier settlers in Geraldine next Thursday evening. In the absence of the president, Dr. G. W. Curtis presided over a full attendance of members. PERSONAL Mr W. Watson, South Island member of the New Zealand Honey Control Board, left on Saturday to attend a meeting of the Board at Auckland. A resolution of sympathy with Mr W. McClure, president of the Geraldine Returned Soldiers’ Association, in his indisposition, was carried at a meeting of the executive. Members expressed the hope that Mr McClure would make a quick recovery. Messrs D. Campbell, A. J. Johnstone and E. T. Aitken, members of the Geraldine Returned Soldiers’ Association, will visit Sydney with the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association delegation. GARDEN PART’D

£5O RAISED Ideal weather combined with efficient organisation resulted in the sum of £5O being raised towards the new church building fund by the garden party held in the Geraldine Domain on Saturday afternoon under the auspices of the Geraldine Presbyterian Ladies' Association. The president of the Association, Mrs S. C. Chisnail, and the past president, Mrs A .L. Brenton, welcomed the guests. Miss E. McLean proved an efficient secretary. The wellstocked stalls were soon depleted of their variety of goods, and a Christmas tree, given by Mr M. S. Barker, proved a strong attraction. Items were given by the Geraldine District Band, under the honorary conductor, Mr C. Ashby, during the afternoon. Stall-holders were as follow: Fancy—Mesdames D. Readdie and C. W. McKenzie, Misses B. JOSEPH’S In a senior South Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association match played at Geraldine on Saturday, Geraldine defeated St. Joseph’s, Temuka, by 10 sets to six. Scores were as follow (Geraldine names first):— Men’s Singles—P. Callanan beat G. Divan 9-8; C. Stringer beat P. Gilmour 9-6; R. Roberts beat L. Spillane 9-4; D. H. Williams beat B. Collins 9-8. Men’s Doubles—Callanan and Stringer beat Divan and Gilmour 9-6; Williams and Roberts beat Spillane and Collins 9-4. Women’s Singles—Mrs W. C. Webb lost to Miss P. Spillane 4-7; Miss M. S. Kennedy lost to Miss M. Spillane 4-7; Miss B. Dean lost to Miss M. Healy 3-7; Miss Galloway lost to Miss K. Spillane 0-7. Women’s Doubles—Miss Kennedy and Mrs Webb lost to Misses P. and M. Mr C. Armerding will continue his address on the Royal Psalms each evening till Thursday in the Mission Hall, Geraldine. T£e weekly evening sports meeting at the Domain next Wednesday. December 1, will be followed by the annual meeting of members of the Geraldine Amateur Athletic Club at the Town Hall supper-room at 8 o’clock.
