WAIMATE
THE AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION MERGER CONFIRMED A formal resolution confirming the decision .to amalgamate with the South Canterbury Automobile Association was passed at a special general meeting of the Waimate Automobile Association was. passed at a special general meeting of the Waimate Automobile Association yesterday. Mr J. Dempsey presided over an attendance of nine, including Messrs S. G. McClelland (president), and E. A. Scott (secretary), of the South Canterbury Association. The chairman asked the South Canterbury representatives what were the conditions of appointment of the Waimate sub-committee. He had been asked* by a Waimate motorist how Waimate Intel ests were to be safeguarded if all the business was being conducted through Timaru. Mr Scott replied that it was the aim to work on the same lines as the arrangement between the Canterbury Association and Ashburton, where there'was a local agent. Possibly occasional committee meetings would be held in Waimate, especially if any matters of particular interest to Waimate arose.
Mr J. C. Winning said that the chairman’s question referred more to the appointment of the three members of the Waimate sub-committee, 'and suggested, that that be done at each annual meeting of the South Canterbury Association. Mr McClelland agreed that the suggested arrangement could be carried out.
