GORSE MENACE
A PARASITE SOUGHT The ravages of bldi-bidl and gorse were referred to at a meeting of the Geraldine branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union when the secretary (Mr T. J. Paterson), was instructed to write to the Cawthron Institute for Information about parasites to combat bidi-bidi and gorse. Dissatisfaction was expressed by members about the grading of cream by the Ashburton Dairy Company. The chairman (Mr J. McLean), said that the South Canterbury Executive of the Farmers’ Union was investigating the matter. A letter was received from Mr J. A. McGillivray, T'»lds Superintendent of the Department of Agriculture in Canterbury and Westland, stating that he could not visit Geraldine to give a lecture at present. He would be pleased to give one in the autumn. Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., advised that he was in touch with the Minister for Transport (the Hon. R. Semple), regarding the licensing of farmers’ lorries and trailers. A report on a conference that had been held at Winchester was given by Mr W. S. Crotty. He intimated that a field day had been arranged in the Temuka district for December 11. The programme wov'd include demonstrations and lectures, and a visit to the Levels irrigation scheme.
