BRITISH BUDGET
LATEST EXCHEQUER RETURNS British Official Wireless (Received November 24. 6.30 pm.) RUGBY, November 23. The Imperial Exchequer returns contain a feature of interest in the first recorded receipts from the National Defence contribution. Introduced in the last Budget, and subject of great controversy at the time. The amount is only £2OOO but the total estimated yield for the present financial year, which has still four months to run, is no more than £2.000,000. The total ordinary revenue amounts to £415.657,903, compared with £394.046.903 at the corresponding date last year. The total expenditure, less self-balancing items, Is £537,700,249, compared with £491.524.268 at the corresponding date in 1936. The total floating debt outstanding on November 20 was £936.075,000 —an increase of £237,945.000 since March 31—compared with £852,690.000 at the corresponding date last year.
