WALL COLLAPSES
OLD MAN SEVERELY HURT DEMOLISHING SOD HUT Grave and extensive injuries were suffered by Mr John Cassidy, aged about 62, when portion of a wall of a sod hut which he was demolishing on his property at Washdyke fell across his body about 5 o'clock on Tuesday evening. Mr Cassidy had brought down a good deal of the old building but when he prised out a block about four feet long and 15 inches thick it fell across his right leg and a section of the wall collapsed, the unfortunate man being struck by a considerable weight. He was taken to the Timaru Public Hospital by the St. John Ambulance, where it was found that his pelvis was fractured in at least four places, and several ribs and his right leg were broken. In addition he suffered extensive internal injuries and shock. Last night his condition was reported to be satisfactory.
