WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

SEADOWN At the monthly meeting of the Seadown Women’s Institute there was a fair attendance of members and friends.

A motion of sympathy was passed with the Cain family.

An appeal was made for the health camp which is to be held at Temuka in January. A letter was read from Mrs R. Hewson who expressed her appreciation of the beautiful collection of flowers which had been sent to her by members during her illness.

An invitation was received to the combined Christmas party of the Institute and Division at Temuka. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs W. Smith and Mrs J. Topham for the able way in which they had worked and for the flower show held at Pleasant Point. A second prize was gained in the cut flower section.

On behalf of the delegates who attended the half-yearly Federation meeting, Mrs L. Ward presented a detailed report. The golden thread was continued by Mrs Dunnett, her subject being “flower trade.”

A demonstration was given Mr Harris of “cake icing” and a vote of thanks was passed to him by Mrs McCully.

Afternoon tea was dispensed by the following hostesses—Misses S. Hide, V. McCully and I. Topham. The results of the competitions were: Gingerbread, seniors: Mrs Topham. Junior, Miss J. Topham 1, Miss M. McCully 2. Four heaviest hen eggs, senior: Mrs Topham 1, Mrs McCully 2. Junior, Miss S. Hide 1, Miss R. Hide 2. Christmas novelty, senior: Mrs Gibson 1, Mrs Topham 2. Junior, Miss V. McCully 1, Miss S. Hide 2. Flowers, senior: Mrs Topham 1 and 2. Junior, Miss J. Topham 1, Miss S. Hide 2. Brass work: senior, Mrs Topham. Junior, Miss G. Brosnahan 1 and 2.
