HEADWAY MADE
CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS By Telegraph -Prast Association WELLINGTON, November 22. Headway with the preparations for New Zealand’s centennial celebrations in 1940 was being made, stated the Minister of Internal Affairs to-day. Reports received from time to time showed that very few matters have been missed in what had been undertaken. The spirit of the helpfulness of co-operation which the Government hoped the committees would engender in the centennial existed in full measure. The aim was to have the whole of the people doing their share to make the occasion memorable. The members of the committees had been focussing attention upon the archives of many districts not previously suspected of holding much valuable material of the kind wanted. The search had been surprisingly well rewarded. Facts about the country’s early days and the story and sidelights of people to be revealed at the celebrations would be of absorbing interest and real news value.
