NEW PRINCIPAL
DR. PRIESTLEY APPOINTED TO BIRMINGHAM LONDON, November 13. A meeting of the Court of Governors of the University of Birmingham appointed Dr. R. E. Priestley, of Melbourne University, vice-chancellor and principal. Dr. Walter Barrow, prochancellor, said they were fortunate in securing a man who, he believed, would fill the with high distinction.
Dr. Priestley has had a distinguished career. He was a member of the Shackleton and Scott Antarctic expeditions, and was Professorial Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge, from 1923 to 1934. He served in the Great War. Since 1935 ho has been vice chancellor of Melbourne University.
