FIRST AID WORK
AMBULANCE BRIGADE CONTESTS INTERESTING DISPLAY The South Canterbury sub-district of the St. John Ambulance Brigade held its annual competitions at Timaru Park on Saturday afternoon. The programme comprised eight events, providing comprehensive tests of the efficiency and skill of the brigade’s personnel in first aid, horn nursing, squad work, transport of patients and rendering attention with improvised equipment.
Throughout the tests a high standard of efficiency was maintained, affording the public an opportunity of assessing the value of the service which is given voluntarily by members of the brigade. Judging was conducted by Miss Lindsay (matron of Timaru Public Hospital), Dr. F. F. A. Ulrich, Dr. G. R. Kingston, Dr. Neat, Dr. G. H. Ussher, Dr. W. R. Fea and Colonel S. D. Mason. Messrs J. Toneycliffe and J. Murray Dunn acted as timekeepers. The competitions were supervised by Superintendent J. 4. Dunne, assisted by Corps. Superintendent C. E. Hooper and Corps. Officer H. A. Toneycliffe. At the conclusion of the events, the trophies were presented by Mr B. E. H. Tripp, patron of the South Canterbury branch of the St. John Ambulance Association.
