Mr J. C. Thomson (Dunedin) is staying at’ the Grand.

Dr. T. Caffell, of Matamata, has been appointed assistant medical superintendent at the Nelson Hospital.

Messrs B. R. Collins (Christchurch), T. H. A. Richards, J. Oliver (Hororata) and A. Sinclair (Dunedin) are staying at the Grosvenor. Lieutenant-Colonel P. E. Gray, a retired officer of the Royal Artillery, arrived in Auckland by the Rangitata for a several months’ tour of the Dominion. Messrs J. N. Murdoch, J. Phillips, A. McCormish, R. J. Hackett (Dunedin), C. E. White (Wellington), R. G. Keith and W. O. Gray (Hororata) are staying at the Dominion.

Messrs A. C. Dynes, J. B. Bebby, L. Craythome, T. S. Caverhill, R. Wills (Christchurch), D. M. Grant (Invercargill), H. S. Dowling, M. Dowling (Greymouth), J. Hardie (Mosgiel), R. M. Campbell and G. Mearns (Dunedin) are staying at the Empire.

Mr A. W. Hampton, who has been with the Lands and Survey Department in Gisborne for the last 16 years, has received notice of his appointment on promotion to the geological survey branch of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. Wellington.

Mr S. Danlloff, Regional Manager of the Packard Motor Car Export Corporation, New York, accompanied by Mr W. D. Gordon* General Manager of the Dominion Motors, passed through Timaru yesterday on his way south and will be returning for a few days’ stay in Timaru early in the week.
