TIMARU DEFENCE CLUB Tire Timaru Defence Rifle Club fired the second match counting for the championship on Saturday, the conditions being 10 shots at 500 and 600 yards. Conditions early in the afternoon, were tricky. At 500 yards C. K. Paine shot a good 49, his score reading 5455555555. The best shoot of the day was registered at 600 yards by J. Gieenall, who shot a brilliant 49, his board reading 5455555555. Six members tied for the weekly trophy, J. Greenall winning from C. K. Paine on the count back. Greenall also won the gold rifle. F. J. Block still holds his lead in the championship, being two points ahead of C. K. Paine, with F. R. Cross a point further back. Tire positions in the Bullseyes are:—Black 32. Cross 30, Paine 30, Taylor 28, Jones 27, Chittock 26. The scores were:—

Against Maritzburg, the British rifle team led by two points at 200 yards and they gained another point at 500 yards. Maritzburg, with two shots to fire at 600 yards, required two bulls to draw level. These were scored and both teams finished with a total of 979. Maritzburg won because they made the larger score at the longest range.
