SOUTHBURN

FAREWELL PARTY An enjoyable card party was held in the Southburn School, when residents of Southbum gathered together to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs S. Rapsey and family. After supper, Mr N. Bell spoke of the good qualities of the guests of honour, and presented Mr Rapsey with a travelling rug. Messrs A. Ward,. A. Kinross, and F. Turner spoke in similar vein. Mrs F. Turner then spoke on behalf of the members of the Southburn Women’s Division ’Farmers’ Union, of which Mrs Rapsey had been a valued member. Mrs Turner then made a presentation to Mrs Rapsey of two lovely dishes. The card prizes were won by Mr D. Chamberlain and Mrs J. Gibson. Those present Included: Mr and Mrs S. Rapsey, Mr and Mrs N. TENNIS CLUB There was a fair attendance when the Southbum Tennis Club held the opening day of the tennis season. Mr Rupert Parry, who opened the courts, extended a welcome to all. Afternoon tea was handed round by the lady members of the club.
