AMERICAN GESTURE TO BRITAIN
OPPOSITION TO OTTAWA AGREEMENT United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright (Received October 6, 8.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, October 5. The United States Chamber of Commerce has issued a statement declaring that world trade generally would be greatly benefited by a British and American trade agreement, which, however, should contain a modification of the British preferential system. “No longer,” says the statement, “is the belief general in Britain, as in 1932, that the Ottawa agreements, which served a temporary period in emergency can advantageously be retained, as a basis of future trade relations between the Empire and the rest of the world.”
