AMALGAMATION CONFIRMED
AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION Formal resolutions ratifying the decision made at the annual general meeting to amalgamate with the Automobile Association (south Canterbury) were passed at a special general meeting of the Automobile Association (Waimate) yesterday. The president, Mr J. Dempsey, presided Over an attendance of 15. Messrs McClelland, Wilson, Scott and Owers of the South Canterbury Association were also present. Mr J. Bitchener, who said that the amalgamation was a step in the right direction, paid a tribute to the work of the Waimate Association over a number of years, and moved a vote of thanks to the members of the committee. Complimentary references were made to the work of the secretary, Mr A. J. Hoskins, who was said to be the oldest secretary of any automobile association in the South Island. On the motion of Mr A. D. Good a bonus payment of £25 to Mr Hoskins was unanimously approved. At a subsequent meeting of the committee, Messrs J. Dempsey, J. I. Hayman and J. F. Rathgen were elected an emergency committee to deal with any matter which might arise in Waimate after the dissolution of the association. PERSONAL Mr L. E. Veitch, who has been visiting Waimate, has returned to Wellington.
