PRISON OUTBREAKS
EPIDEMIC IN UNITED STATES United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph -Copyright HUNTSVILLE (Texas), October 4. The epidemic of prison outbreaks is continuing. The guards at the Eastham Penitentiary, killed two convicts, wounded another two, and frustrated an attempt to escape by 27 of the most vicious inmates. Two broke from their quarters by means of an improvised key, overpowered the guard, took a pistol and compelled another guard to surrender the keys, with which they released their companions, who rushed out into the yard. A guard fired a rifle from a tower, killing two and wounding one. Another guard wounded a fourth, whereupon the remainder surrendered.
