SHAMPOOS AND SUNSHINE “I can’t blame any woman for longing to possess red-gold hair and its usual accompaniment of green or grey eyes and delicate, white skin, for red hair is really very beautiful when properly treated,” states a writer in the “Winnipeg Free Press.” But the problems of the redhead are many. “The redhead’s tresses, in the first place, need a good deal of care, so that they will retain their lustrous, burnished appearance. Brushing the hair briskly the first t’.ing each morning is the first step in any red-headed girl’s hair-grooming routine. In addition, whenever possible, let the air and sun get at the scalp. “In shampooing red hair a liquid soap is best. The hair should be lathered and rinsed several times, and the water and shampoo solution should bo gradually reduced in temperature until it is almost cold. The final rinse should be a vinegar or lemon rinse. Then the hair should be dried with warm towels. “When shampooing red hair, however. special precautions should always be taken in the rinsing, for if any soap film is ’eft on the hair it will make it appear sticky, dull, and lifeless. For this reason a spray that has a good, heavy water pressure behind it is best for rinsing red hair. “The red-headed woman must be very careful in dressing her tresses. For hair of this shade does not lend itself to every type of coiffure. A soft wave is far better than a tight, kinky wave. And straight hair is not at all advisable, usually for few redheads can ever successfully wear their hair straight or too plain. “Red hair should always be dressed softly enough for the sun and light to play through it and bring out its radiant tones. For its burnished radiance is one of the chief beauties of titian hair.”
