GENERAL ASSEMBLY
REV. G. H. JUPP NOMINATED AS MODERATOR
By Telegranh Press Association DUNEDIN, October 5.
The Rev. G. H. Jupp was selected this evening as the Dunedin Presbytery’s nomination for moderator-elect of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. The nomination was proposed by the Rev. J. D. Smith (Clerk of Presbytery) who said Mr Jupp was the “father of the presbytery” in the sense of having occupied a charge in it for the longest time, but in other ways it could be said that he held seniority. He had been an assistant at Knox College where he had completed his studies, and had later done great service in youth work and had done a great deal to set it upon firm foundations. Later in his charge he had again shown himself to be a man who could build thoroughly and soundly. As editor of the “Outlook” he had a record of distinguished service to the church in a difficult and thankless position. The time was now appropriate that his work should be recognised. It would be a great pity if the Presbytery did not show that Mr Jupp’s work had been appreciated. Tlie motion was seconded by Dr Dickie, who said he did so with great pleasure in view of Mr Jupp’s length and variety of service.
The nomination was approved.
