CRITICISM OF THE PRIME MINISTER
To the Editor ot " The Timaru Hera.d ’ Sir,—l am sure many listeners-in last night were shocked as I was at the attack made by Colonel Hargest upon what he termed the lack of loyalty to the British Throne of our Prime Minister in his report placed before the House regarding the Imperial Conference. For a moment I was stunned with surprise as I am sure were many others including many of the Opposition members. Colonel Hargest in his anxiety to create a bogey and detriment to the Government completely forgot himself last night and I am quite sure he does not further the interests of his Party by such tactics. How the Prime Minister sat quietly under the outburst is a striking tribute to the qualities of the man, but that he received a shock was quite evident in his speceh when he did make a comment. If the Leader of the Opposition will not do so I sincerely hope Mr Savage will give Colonel Hargest the set-back he so richly deserves. As Mr Savage remarked last night Colonel Hargest has well and truly proved “just where he stands.”— I am, etc., DISGUSTED. • Timaru, September 30.
