“MOSLEY SHALL NOT PASS”

RED CHALLENGE TO FASCISTS SERIOUS CLASH WITH POLICE LEADER’S CALL FOR ACTION United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Coo-right LONDON. October 3. Shouts of “Mosley shall not pass,” greeted a big Fascist march from Millbank to Bermondsey. The route was lined on both sides. The crowd broke through the police at several points. There were a number of arrests and two police were injured. Red Flag in Streets Two barricades, erected in the streets, surmounted with red flags, were removed by the police and while a third was being built police reinforcements arrived. They were met with stones and other missiles, and the police made a baton charge. The procession included 5000 marchers. Sir Oswald Mosley, dressed in a black shirt uniform, inspected them, and amid hoots, led them under a Fascist banner through a cordon of mounted and foot police. Clashes with Police Tremendous efforts were made to impede them, and the crowd pelted Sir Oswald Mosley. The bulk of the procession halted before reaching Westlane Square, where a portion listened to Sir Oswald Mosley’s address, which, despite loudspeakers, was almost inaudible owing to hoots, jeers and an explosion of fireworks, but the words caught were: “Once again we’ve marched—we’ve passed.” The police repeatedly charged to clear the abutting streets and ambulances removed 13 injured. The meeting broke up after 90 minutes.
