I SOCIAL EVENING ■„ A euchre Social held under the aua-. pices of the Tennis and Croquet Club was poorly attended. The competition prizes were won by Mrs D. A. Pearce, Mrs Frank South. Messrs F. South and J. Cripps. Mr W. J. Jackson was master of ceremonies. There was a large attendance at the weekly dance held under the auspices of the Social Committee of the Victoria Hall. Miss M. Blissett played extras. Mr and Mrs J. Currie won the Monte Carlo. Messrs W. J. Jackson, W. Waple and 3. Cripps were masters of ceremonies. TENNIS CLUB There was a good attendance at the opening of the Winchester tennis and croquet courts. Visitors were present from the Orari, Geraldine and Geraldine Flat Clubs. Mr A. G. Williams, president of the club, in declaring the courts opened for the season, extended a welcome to the visitors and hoped that they Would all have an enjoyable season. During the afternoon several tennis and croquet competitions were held. The Tennis Club held a Yankee tournament. In the winners’ section Miss A. White and C. Higinbottom were the winners, and the winners of the losers’ sectioh were Miss M. White and D. Ferguson. In the croquet competition, the winners were: Clock. Mr W. H. Kirk; golf, Miss D. Deßenzy; hoops. Mrs Kirk. TOWN AND COUNTRY TENNIS A meeting of the Temuka Town and Country Tennis Association was held at Winchester. Present—Messrs W. H. Staniland (president). R. Meredith. A. Johnston, R. Brenton, W. Scott, R. Wilks, H. Worner. T. E. Langrell, R. A. Telfer, W. 3. Moore, A. Kehnan, N. Priddle, J. Neville, T. Kyne. J. Slattery (treasurer), and J. N. Reid (secretary). The secretary said he had received six entries for the A grade competition and 10 for the B grade. One or two other clubs would no doubt send their entries in after their annua, meeting.
