A Navy flying boat crashed in the Bay. Details of Disaster Six persons were killed and two injured seriously. Three bodies have been recovered. The aeroplane was being brought down towards the landing when its twin motors spluttered and died. The machine nose-dived into 60 feet of water with such force, witnesses said, that the bodies were thrown many feet away. During the night, small boats aided by searchlights from battleships and cruisers were used to search for the wreckage. Divers were also brought to the scene to wield grappling hooks. l{ is believed that the bodies remaining in the wreckage are so wedged that it will be impossible to remove them until the machine is towed to shallower water.

The flying boat formed part of a squadron which has been to Honolulu several times. This is the squadron's first serious accident.
