CHURCH PARADE LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN Much interest was -taken in a parade of the Temuka troop of the Legion of Frontiersmen to Holy Trinity Church Arowhenua yesterday. The parade, which started in the town on the corner of King and Wood Streets was led by the Temuka Highland Pipe Band under Drum-Major C. J. de Joux. It was under the command of Lieutenant A. W. Saunders O.C. and it created much interest as it passed through the town by the fact that it was the first of its kind in the Dominion. The sen ice was conducted by the Rev. L. A. Barnes in Maori and in English. He preached his sermon from St. Luke 24-2, “Did not our hearts burn within us.” AROWHENUA RUNANGA Because members of the Runanga claimed that many items were not included in the annual balance-sheet there was no election of officers at the annual meeting of the Runanga on Saturday evening. Mr N. Waaka presided over a large and enthusiastic meeting. The statement of accounts was referred back to the executive for consideration and the annual meeting was adjourned sine die. Under authority from the Native Land Court, Mr T. H. Paiki reported on the Government’s housing proposals. These were favourably commented on and Messrs T. Waaka and T. H. Paiki were appointed a sub-com-mittee to carry the scheme into effect. It was unanimously agreed to forward a letter of welcome to Mr E. H. Tiriketene M.P., who has returned from the coronation celebrations. Mr Tiriketere was a member of the New Zealand contingent. MILFORD SUCCESSFUL DANCE Tire annual ball of the Milford Bachelors and Spinsters Club proved an outstanding success there bein' more than 250 dancers Including visitors from Clandeboye and the Waltohl districts. The hall was tastefully decorated in coronation colours. The Grand March was led by Miss D, Barratt and Mr L. Trumper, joint secretaries of the club. During the evening the chairman, Mr Jas. BASKETBALL In a friendly second grade match played at the St. Joseph’s court on Saturday afternoon the home side drew with Orari Bridge, 19 goals all. The half-time score was 13 10 in favour of Orari Bridge, but St. Joseph's made up the leeway 1 the second spell with more cohesion in their play. Mr F. Naughton refereed the game. Before the visitors returned they were entertained at afternoon tea by the home side. LODGE SOCIAL A successful social was held by the combined Waitea Rebekah and Alexandrovna Oddfellows in the lodge hall on Saturday. The first part of the evening was spent ‘n card competitions and the winners were, Mesdames C. W. Arnst and F. Downes and Messrs J. Prattley and J. Preddy. A Monte “Carlo waltz was won by Miss M.
