WEDDING

HAWKE-M’ELREA The wedding was celebrated in the Tokomairiro Presbyterian Church between two well-known families Oi the Milton district—Margaret Nancy, elder daughter of Mrs M’Elrea, of King Street, Dunedin, and the late Mr James M'Elrea, of “Sunnyside,” Milton, and William Edward Dunbar Hawke, elder son of Mr and Mrs A. J. Hawke, of "Belevue," Milton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mr McDonald, of Romahapa, and Miss E. Thornton played the wedding music. The church had been tastefully decorated by friends of the bride. During the signing of the register Mrs M'Donald rendered the solo “Thanks Be to God.” The bride, who entered the church with her brother, Mr M. M'Elrea, wore a French model gown of gleaming perle satin riche, cut on princess lines, and showing applique of matching lace flowers on the shoulder, and upper bishop sleeves which fell int. lace folds from the elbow. The handsome lace train was inset in embroidered satin magnolias, and the billowy veil was heavily embroidered and mounted on an Austrian halo of orange blossoms. Her bouquet was of arum lilies with trails of roses. The bride’s sister Mabel looked attractive in a model gown of periwinkle blue georgette, the full puff sleeves and front flare being embroidered in pink and gold. She wore a matching coronet of blue velvet flowers and leaves and silver shoes, and carried a pink bouquet. Ngairc Michelle, the bridegroom’s niece, wore an ankle-length frock of pink net, frilled from the waist, the frills being edged in a deeper shade of rose. Pink velvet ribbon and. pink and blue rosebuds adorned her hair, and she carried a pink posy of flowers. Mr H. Hawke, the bridegroom’s brother, acted as best man, while Mr R. M’Elre.' and Mr K. W. Wooding, Geraldine, were ushers. On leaving the church the bride was presented with a silver horse shoe by Lorraine Michelle. At the reception which was held in

the Motorists’ Refreshment House, the guests were received by the bride’s mother, who wore a smart black silk marocain frock, relieved with white, and a black velour hat. The bridegroom’s mother wore a black costume, black skunk fur, and black velour hat, with ermine tips. Both parents carried bouuqets composed of bronze chrysanthemums. Later the guests adjourned to Anderson's Tea Rooms for dancing, the bridal couple departing later on a motoring tour of Centra) Otago and the Lakes. For travelling, the bride chose a navy tailored pin-stripe costume, with oyster satin blouse, and navy accessories. She wore a real skunk fur. and carried a navy Russian model coat trimmed with Persian lamb. Mr and Mrs Hawkes’s future home will be at Hunter, South Canterbury.
