NEW ZEALANDERS IN SCOTLAND

MATCH REGARDED AS TEST MIXTURE OF BRILLIANCE AND DULLNESS From the Special Correspondent ot the Press Association ' J (Received July 18, 6.30 p.m.) GLASGOW, July 17. The wicket was soft and the weather fine for the match New Zealand versus Scotland. The attendance was nearly 5,000. The Teams The teams are: Scotland: W. Ramsden, P. H. Gibb, N. S. Mitchell-Innes, Heggie, F. MacTavish, B. R. Tod, A. Smith, G. T. Forbes, I. A. Peebles, A. D. Baxter, J. H. Melville. New Zealand: M. L. Page, H. G. Vivian, D. A. R. Moloney, W. M. Wallace, J. L. Kerr, W. A Hadlee, M. P. Donnelly, N. Gallicban. T. C. Lowry, J. A. Dunning, W. M. Carson. Visitors’ Good Form After Hadlee had been tried without success as an opening bowler, the attack was borne by Dunning, Vivian and Gallichan. A feature of the day was the success of the slow lefthanders. Gallichan achieved his best performance since the first match against Surrey. Three catches were taken from him in the slips. Good catching also assisted Vivian. Safe acceptances were made at long-on and mid-on by Carson and Gallichan. Like a Test Game The Edinburgh and Glasgow papers unanimously call the game a test. It certainly had that atmosphere for some time, the scoring being very slow, Mltchell’lnnes’s being a dashing exception. He gave a brilliant exhibition of strong in front of the wicket play marked by beautiful drives on both sides of the wicket. He scored a six, two fours and a two in one over off Vivian and four fours in one over off Dunning and another six off Dunning and a third off Gallichan. Heggie and Tod were slow but they played a useful innings. Dashing Batting New Zealand's batting was distinguished by the dashing vigour of Vivian. The left-hander was at the top of his form, racing past the halfcentury in just over half an hour. He had then hit eight, fours and a six. Altogether there were ten fours and two sixes in his 75 out >f the first 98 runs scored. Wallace was more restrained than usual but wa.? confident and correct. H® compiled a sound fifty in an hour' and a-quarter, including six fours. Scotland's high-class slow bowlers, Melville (left-hander) and Peebles (right-hander), probably bowled as well as any pair the New Zealanders have met in England.
