Professor Piccard wearing a parachute and football headgear to protect him from the cold and from a bumpy landing, took off for th stratosphere at 5.38 New Zealand time in at unique dondola supported by 80 tiny balloons. It is expected that Professor Piccard will descend at 1.30 p.m. on Tuesday ((New Zealand time). He is communicating with the ground crew by radio. If the experiments with the multiballoon device is successful, Professor Piccard will attempt to go up sixteen miles in future.
