WARNING ISSUED
AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION NOT IMPRESSED
Suggesting that it was a dangerous practice for motorist’s to have their windscreens “plastered over” with notices indicating that their licenses and certificates of fitness, etc., have been produced, Mr W. W. Baxter urged the Automobile Association (S.C.) at a meeting last night, to issue some warning or have the matter included in a bill for its prohibition. Mr Baxter said the practice was dangerous as anything on tho windscreen must distract the driver’s attention. He could not understand how it was that the Transport Act and Motor Vehicles Regulations allowed the practice. New owners of cars were on the roads and, with the high speeds now possible, it was absolutely necessary that anything which in any way attracted the driver’s attention should not be allowed on the windscreen. Mr J. Palliser pointed out that the Sticker was only about the size of a half-crown.
It was only about a quarter the size of the English sticker, said Mr Robert Wilson. South Canterbury's sticker was nothing compared with the notices used by som? other associations. "It is no obstacle,’ said Mr Palliser. “There is a regulation against anything on the windscreen which obstructs the view. This is not an obstruction." No action was taken by the meeting.
