MORE WOMEN THAN MEN

PROBLEM IN BRITAIN There are a million women in Britain who can never hope to get married. Figures that have just been collected by the Government show that—including all ages—there are nearly 25,900,000 females against 24,000,000 males. If adults only are considered, there are 1,000,000 more women than men. Tire Government Is considering the question of emigration as one way out of the difficulty. In Australia and Canada there are hundreds of thousands of young men of British birth or descent who are anxious to marry, but who are unable to do so because there are not enough girls to go round. Negotiations are taking place with the dominion Governments to see whether schemes of emigration can be drawn up. It is hoped that British girls who want to settle in the Empire can be assisted to do so, by the provision of passages and jobs, when they arrive in the new country, says an English paper.
