STRONGER TEAM IN SCOTLAND

NEW ZEALANDERS’ BIG PROGRAMME CLOSE CALL AGAINST YORKSHIRE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received July 14, 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 14. In Scotland’s team to meet New Zealand at Glasgow on July 17, 19 and 20, there is a notable departure from the usual practice of picking all tartan elevens, the selectors are Including N. S. Mitchell-Innes (Oxford University and Somerset), P. A. Gibb (Scotland and Yorkshire), I. A. R. Peebles (Glasgow Academy and Middlesex) and A. D. Baxter (Lancashire and Scotland). “The Referee” says that normally Scotland's chances are not worth “two small hoots,” but the home team will be very strong with the inclusion of four Anglo-Scotsmen. DRAWN GAME AT LEEDS NEW ZEALAND’S FIGHT AGAINST TIME DONNELLY IN GOOD FORM United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Cnrvricnt LONDON, July 13. Playing New Zealand, at Leeds, Yorkshire declared in their second innings with six wickets down for 207 runs. Requiring 358 runs, New Zealand then had a hard task to avoid defeat. Donnelly made 97, his highest score to date. At stumps New Zealand had lost nine wickets for 203 runs. The match was drawn. The attendance was 1500. Donnelly’s Fine Innings. Donnelly's delightful Innings made memorable New Zealand’s fight for a draw, after an advantageous declaration by Yorkshire. The young, lefthander, dominated play, scoring 97 out of 139 made while he was batting. Donnelly played accurately, varying his attack with confidence and discretion. His scoring strokes were crisp and clean, especially his hooks and cuts. He was dismissed trying to hook an extra fast ball. He batted for two and a half hours, his innings being a fine blending of steadiness and enterprise. His score included 16 fours. The dead weight of a bad start, and again the burdensome handicap of five more added to the already huge list of leg before dismissals, intensified the tourists’ discomforture. Fight Against Time Page defended dourly for an hour and a half. Bowes and Smailes made effective use of both the first and second new balls. Tindill and Cowie stubbornly stonewalled for nearly half an hour against vlmful bowling, thus saving the match. Yorkshire, in their second innings, ei countered vigorous bowling. Tindill was particularly brisk. Not only was h- responsible for some fine stumping, but he made a great one-handed catch high overhead. Donnelly also took a one handed catch off his oww bowling. Vivian and Wallace made spectacular catches on the boundary. The following are the scores:
