TELEVISION IN NEW ZEALAND

MR SAVAGE’S INQUIRIES A cablegram published recently intimated that the Prime Ministers had visited the largest broadcasting manufactory in England to inspect the latest developments in broadcasting and television with a view to their application in the Dominion. Mr Savage took with him introductions to Electrical Musical Industries (of which His Master’s Voice is an associated company), and it would seem that he has made practical use of them. Mr Wyness, managing director of His Master’s Voice (New Zealand), Ltd., stated that he knew of Mr Savage’s intention to inquire into television, which had come to stay in England. This was reflected in the rapid growth of the television industry. "Mr Savage had expressed a desire before he left New Zealand, to see the manufacture of television equipment, in view of its future application to New Zealand." added Mr Wyness. “The geographic situation of New Zealand is such that television presented more difficulties here than in England, but with the rapid progress in the science and manufacture of television instruments, these difficulties could be easily overcome. These huge factories, the

largest in the Empire, have been engaged for many years on this branch of research, and it was in the nature of a triumph for British engineers that the system evolved in the HM.V. factory should prove so outstandingly successful.”
