WORK FOR EDUCATED BOYS “UNABLE TO SUPPLY DEMAND” The fact that he had received many requests for boys with good educational qualifications and had been able to find positions for all who required them, was reported to the Board of Governors of the Timaru High Schools at last night’s meeting by the Rector of the Boys’ School (Mr A. G. Tait). “There is a demand for boys of this type and recently we have been unable to supply the demand,” he added. “Employers are desirous of giving employment to boys who have sound educational attainments.”
A return recently prepared for the Education Department gave some information concerning the destination of the 165 pupils who were in attendance in 1936 and did not attend in 1937, said Mr Tait. Eleven of these pupils who left the district continued their education at other schools, seven went to University and a similar number entered the Training College. Twenty-one gained positions in the Public Service. The remainder were placed as follows: Banking 2, legal office 1. commercial offices SO, trades 27, shops 35, farming 1 and Air Force 1.
