TEMUKA

FLORAL SOCIETY SMALL SURPLUS ON YEAR In spite of adverse weather conditions throughout the summer the annual show of the Temuka Floral and Horticultural Soceity was almost as well supported with high quality exhibits as usual, said Mr J. T. Kmart, president, in a review of the season at a meeting of the committee on Tuesday evening. Mr Smart said that expenses had been rather higli but there had been extra costs by way of hall rent and lighting, and although the society would finish the year with a credit of only £2 the members could feel well satisfied with the season. The support from tlie public had been good. He wished to point out to members that had exhibitors collected all the prizes won, the credit balance would have been less than it was. Besides the small cash balance the society has its property to include as assets, and with a more satisfactory year from the point of view of the weather it should catch up some of the leeway. The balance-sheet from the show showed that receipts had totalled £47/2/-, while expenditure amounted to £45. The committee decided not to hold a meeting to arrange next year’s schedule until August.

Arrangements were being made for the engagement of a competent instructor, and with several more pupils and a supply of wool a start could be made as early as next week.
