WINTER SHOW
MEETING OF COMMITTEE The Waimate Winter Show Committee at its meeting on Tuesday evening decided not to alter the date of its annual fixture to avoid clashing with the South Canterbury Industrial Exhibition. A letter was read from the Mayor, Mr G. Dash, pointing out that both exhibitions were scheduled for the same week, and asking whether the Waimate Committee could alter its date to avoid a clash. During discussion it was pointed out that the Waimate Society had held its shows about the same date for the last 20 years. The date was allotted by the South Island Poultry Association, and if it was altered, it would mean that the Waimate Show would have to be held either a month earlier or a month later than the date allotted. The dates between were those on which the Ashburton, Oamaru and Dunedin shows were held, and Waimate was unable to make any alteration, otherwise a clash with these fixtures would result in a loss for the show, and if a change was made in the date, the judges would not then be available. Those present were: Messrs W. F. George (president), A. Deadmarch, J. Johns, H. Alllngton, F. Roy, C. Creba, F. Bailey, T. Wilce, J. Carbis, J. Betten and J. Hutt.
It was decided to hold this year a Women’s Institute Bay competition, and a cup was allocated for this section. The secretary, Mr L. V. Brenton, reported that the Women’s Institutes had promised their support. It was agreed that the space to be reserved for each Institute exhibit be Bft. x 6ft. Owing to lack of interest in the tug-of-war, and also on account of the space being taken up with the horticultural and institute exhibits, it was decided to abandon the competition this year. It was decided to- reduce the entry fee for exhibits to 6d for members and d for non-members.
