FAIRLIE
ADDRESS BY MR O. WILSON, M.P. Mr G. H. Ormond Wilson, M.A., Labour Member of Parliament for Rangitikei, gave an address in the Aorangi Hall dealing particularly with the Labour Party’s legislation and detailing the action taken with regard to wages, taxation and guaranteed prices. Mr C. J. Talbot, who presided, referred to the fact that Mr Wilson was a grandson of Sir James Wilson, who had been a well-known personality 4n the North Island. He was afraid, however, that Mr Wilson’s politics would not agree with those of Sir James. In the past complaints had been made because the Labour Party did not have educated men; Mr Wilson, however, was a graduate of Oxford University. A vote of thanks was accorded the speaker on the motion of Mr Hector Carlton, who said that at the last election he had not voted for the Labour Party. One thing which the Member for the district, Mr David Barnes, had done, was to return to his constituency as soon as the session was over and explain the legislation that had been passed; such addresses in his opinion, helped people to vote more intelligently. GOLF At a meeting of the Fairlie Golf Committee on Tuesday night, over which Mr W. B. Trotter presided, Mr W. J. Whitehead was appointed to take charge of the grounds. Mr S. Hatton was elected to the match committee, and Mr T. Stamp was appointed caretaker.
