“ANOTHER INSULT TO ITALY”

ANGERED AT BRITISH STATEMENT United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright ROME. March 9. Newspapers describe Lord CranbOrne’s reply in the House of Commons about the Addis Ababa reprisals as another insult to Italy. Replying to questions in the House of Commons Lord Cranborne (Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs) said that while it would be realised that precise details are in the circumstances difficult to obtain, the Foreign Secretary had received information tending to show that, following the attempted assassination of Gei.eral Graziani, scenes of grave disorder occurred at Addis Ababa, in the course of which reprisals of a severe character were taken by the Italian soldiery, resulting in a large number of deaths, and extensive destruction of property of British subjects. The protected persons concerned, who were arrested when the outbreak occurred had now been released. No British lives were lost.
