CONTROL IN THE AIR
INTERESTING DEVELOPMENTS IN AUSTRALIA United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright (Received March 10, 11.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 10. It is announced that Quantas Empire Airways, Ltd. and Airlines of ustralia and the Australian National Airways have completed an agreement “for the co-ordination of all major air services in the Commonwealth.” The spokesman of one company states the basis of the agreement is “an association of interests,” but no merger. A message from Canberra states that the Minister of Defence (Sir Archdale Parkhill), referring to the foregoing announcement, said the Commonwealth Government was opposed to anything in the way of monopolies on the part of commercial aviation. The Government considered that free competition was the best for all concerned.
