MINING INDUSTRY
NEGOTIATIONS FOR WAGES AGREEMENT By Telegraph-Press* Association AUCKLAND, March 9. At the instance of the Minister of Mines (Hon. P. C. Webb), representatives of the Miners’ Federation and the New Zealand Coalmine Owners' Federation met this morning to endeavour to reach an agreement in reference to the hours of work, labour conditions and wages throughout the industry with the exception of the State mines. Mr Webb addressed the meeting and then withdrew, informing tire delegates that they knew where to find him if they desired. The proceedings were held in camera.
The old working arrangement expired recently and the parties met in ling ton io discuss a new agreement. The proceedings proved abortive, and the present conference is the result of an effort by Mr Webb to secure amicable relations in what is considered one ot the most important industries in New Zealand.
