IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch— After a bright sunny morning with a mild temperature, the weather changed to the south. The day then became quite wintry with driving showers and a bitter wind. The barometer rose sharply from 29.52 to 29.68 at 7.30 p.m. Ashburton— Fine weather prevailed yesterday during the morning. The sky was overcast early, but cleared later for the sun to shine brightly. About mid-day the sky was overcast, and the light northerly wind had changed to the south, from which quarter black clouds arose. The rainfall on Monday amounted to nine points. Geraldine— Bright and fine in the morning dull and overcast with heavy intermittent showers during the afternoon keen south-west wind. FOMINION METEORC-.OGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General Situation—While an anticyclone has gradually extended from the South-Western Tasman Sea towards Northern New Zealand, a series of secondary depressions has continued to cross the Dominion with lowest pressure to the souh. A rather deeo one is now lying across the South Island. Winds—Moderate to strong westerly to south-westerly, occasionally reaching gale force in places south of New Plymouth and Napier; soon becoming more generally southerly. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, and becoming rough north of Cape EgI .ont; elsewhere moderate, but a considerable southerly swell on the west coas’ of the South Island and later rising south of East Cape. Eastern Tasman Sea—Strong southwesterly to southerly winds of gale force in the southern portion; seas rough. Weather—Changeable and squally, with passing showers in most districts, and hail and thunder in places; temperatures becoming cold; improving soon on the west coast of the 1 uth Island.
