Ferguson (Bluff) are guests at the Balmoral. Messrs T. F. Purdom (Auckland), W. N. Campbell, J. M. Webb (Taumarunui), J. B. McMullan (Stratford), P. Helmore (Christchurch), G. A. Maddison, N. Q. Harding (Hastings), and J. W. Mclntosh (Dunedin) are staying at the Dominion. Crs. J. R. Hart and H. J. Mathers were last night appointed to represent the Timaru Borough Council at the annual conference of the Municipal Electric Supply Association, which is to be held in Timaru on Thursday afternoon. Messrs J. F. Bennett, G. P. McAlwee, E. H. Andrews, B. Thomson, M. S. Smart (Christchurch), G. B. Body, George A. Lloyd, C. Goldsworth, A. Y. Barnett, K. R. Brocklehurst (Sydney), W. D. Gordon, C. B. Norwood (Wellington), R. D. Hobbs (England), and F. N. Avery (Melbourne) are staying at the Grosvenor. On the eve of his departure from Timaru, Mr J. Turkington was made the recipient of a farewell gift by office-bearers and deacons of Trinity Church. The presentation was made by the Rev. F. H. Wilkinson, who expressed appreciation of Mr Turkington’s work for the church, and wished him every success in the future.

Mason, president of the Old Boys’ Football Club, at the annual meeting last night, when the deaths of several strong supporters were referred to. Motions of condolence were passed with the relatives of the late Messrs T. W. Satterthwaite, A. G. Simmers, D. Harte, J. Leggott and J. McNair.

Lord Balfour of Burleigh, director of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., who has been on a short visit to New Zealand, will leave on his return to Australia by the Awatea from Wellington to-day. Mr D. H. Edgar, of Wellington, has left for England to attend the General Assemblies of the Church of Scotland and the Presbyterian Church of Ireland. He will also attend the Empire Justices’ Conference in London.

Reference to the death of the Controller and Auditor-General (Colonel G. F. C. Campbell) was made by the Mayor (Mr P. C. Vlnnell) at a meeting of the Timaru Borough Council last night, and a motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried in silence. The Mayor said that Colonel Campbell fiad been a man of the strictest integrity. His position necessarily meant that he had to be strict, but he had always been willing to guide and assist the officers of the Council.

Dean Julius has resigned the Archdeaconery of Christchurch, an office, he has held for several years in addition to his position as Dean of the Christchurch Cathedral. In his place Bishop West-Watson has appointed the Rev. A. K. Warren, vicar of St. Mary’s, Merivale, who will become Archdeacon of Christchurch 'from March 31. -Mr Warren has been vicar of Merivale since 1934. He studied In England, where he was ordained, and after four years in the diocese of Canterbury, England, he returned to New Zealand and became vicar of Ross. From Ross he went to Waimate, and from Waimate to Merivale.
