TIMARU TROTTING CLUB

ARRANGEMENTS FOR SATURDAY Arrangements for the forthcoming race meeting were made at a meeting of the Timaru Trotting Club yesterday. Present: Messrs John Hole (chairman), M. H. Richards. W. Quirk. T. M. Munro, A. B. Annand, W. Connelly, G. T. Wardell and J. Gilmore. On behalf of the Grounds Committee Mr Richards reported that the course was in splendid order and should be better than it was at last meeting.

It was agreed to purchase two canteens of cutlery as trophies for the Timaru Cup and the New Zealand Trotting Stakes, the presentations to be made by the president after the running of the Stakes. Messrs J. Gilmore, W. Connelly, T. H. Langford, T. M. Munro and E. Macdonald were appointed a judicial committee. The South Canterbury Stock Auctioneers and Woolbrokers’ Association wrote thanking the club for extending an invitation to woolbuyers to attend the race meeting on Saturday. A similar letter was received from the Town Clerk (Mr E. Killick), in respect to delegates attending the Municipal Conference at Timaru. It was stated that as inquiries were being received for tickets, it was apparently not generally known that ladies would be admitted free at the forthcoming meeting. In view of the service that had been given to trotting by the president of the conference (Mr H. F. After the running of the Greenmeadows Handicap, the principal event of the day at Napier Park races on Saturday, an enquiry was opened into alleged interference to Black Fox by King's Fancer, ridden by Perck Atkins, the well-known jockey, of Hastings The evidence of several witnesses was heard, and the proceedings were completed to-night, when the judicial committee returned the following finding: “The committee considers, after hearing the evidence of all the riders, the trainer of Black Fox. the owner of King's Lancer, ridd: i by Percy Atkins, steward, that interference, negligent or incompetent riding was not proved against Atkins."
