Official statistics show that 1,290,000 babies were born in Germany last, year, which is 20,000 more than in 1935, and 300,000 more than in 1933, Nevertheless the authorities are disappointed with the results of the Larger Families Campaign for 1936. The total represents only 19.2 per 1000 of population, whereas the rate in 1920 w:s 25.9. A new criminal code provides imprisonment for co-respondents and adulterers and penalties for advocates of family limitation.
